2. Setting Up Matillion
Setting up Matillion involves creating a Matillion Hub account, launching an ETL instance through your preferred cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or GCP), and connecting it to your data platform (such as Snowflake, Redshift, or BigQuery). Once launched, you can configure your environment and begin building your first data pipelines.
Step 1: Create a Matillion Account
🡆Go to hub.matillion.com.
🡆Click Sign Up, enter your email, create a password, and verify your account.
🡆On first login, complete your profile and select your preferred region for data hosting.
Step 2: Launch an Instance
From the Matillion Hub, click Add Matillion ETL Instance. Then:
🡆Choose your cloud provider (e.g., AWS, Azure, or GCP).
🡆Select your data platform (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift)
Follow the launch instructions for your provider:
Example – Google Cloud Platform (GCP):
🡆In the GCP console, go to VM Instances → Create Instance
🡆Under “Boot Disk,” click Change → Custom Images → select Matillion ETL for BigQuery
🡆Choose your machine type, adjust settings, and click Create
🡆Example – Amazon Web Services (AWS):
🡆In AWS Marketplace, search for Matillion ETL
🡆Click Continue to Subscribe, then Continue to Configuration
🡆Choose an instance type and configure network settings before launching
Example – Microsoft Azure:
🡆Go to the Azure Marketplace and search for Matillion ETL
🡆Select Create, specify your deployment name, region, and network
🡆Choose your VM size and click Create
Step 3: Associate the Instance
🡆After the instance launches:
🡆Click Associate Instance in the Hub
🡆Name your instance and confirm
🡆Click Launch Matillion ETL to start your 14-day trial.
Step 4: Configure Your Environment
🡆Log into your Matillion ETL instance and:
🡆Create your first Project
🡆Provide connection details for your data warehouse (e.g., role, warehouse, database, schema)
🡆Use the provided SQL setup script if applicable (for Snowflake, Redshift, etc.)
🡆Begin building your data transformation jobs
